Tech with Global Learning

This weeks topic was to select a website from our text and through the site find an article that describes a teacher using technology to support global learning.  This week, the Greenfooters decided to use Vanessa's website.  This article is about a teacher named Marodor who first wanted to have her students do blogs as a way for implementing technology in the classroom.  The teacher realized that students weren't engaged so she was trying to find other ways of making it better.  She was brainstorming and realized how the students were into recording the school news forecasting, so she wanted to implement technology in that sort of way.  Therefore Marodor had the students record a music video of the school with dancing, live animals, costumes, and many more decorations.  The ending result was great because the students were really engaged and Marodor proved that students learn from authentic experiences and problem based learning.  It is also inspirational because Marodor gained a reputation as an ED innovator and is how training other teachers how to implement technology in effective ways to their students.  Her main motto is that technology should personalize learning.  She has many goals for her district and wants the schools to go under a creative commons license, so everyone would know how to personalize learning with technology.

Week #6 Current Event

This weeks topic was to identify an article, blog post, or website that takes a position which you agree with on the usefulness of the apple iPad in the classroom.  The Greenfooters voted for Natalie's website this week which is an Australian based site.  There is a section that gives information about different education apps that teachers can work with and use in their classrooms.  There are also links on the site that shows success stories and examples of how iPads have improved learning at various schools, and a section that has 21 steps to iPad success.  This website is very resourceful and provides useful informaiton for those wanting to use the iPad.

Self Introduction

Shyann Fermahin

Answer the following question, what is your favorite technology gadget or gizmo and explain why it is your favorite.
  • My favorite technology gadget or gizmo would have to be my iPhone 5 because I am always on it.  It pretty much holds my life in there.  Whether its my photos of my loved ones, or a calendar of my daily schedule, this helps me build my day along with apps to keep me sane through all the daily challenges life seems to give me.
In this class we will have an online small group project, please describe your work style and two skills or traits you bring to an online group.
  • I am very supportive to others and also committed to getting my work done.  I believe that school is a priority and education is very important which is why I would like to become a teacher.

A link to an online video that focuses on the need for teachers to address 21st century learner OR A link to an online video example of a teacher integrating technology into their classroom and facilitating learning,
  • I found this video on youtube, it was a college professor who decided to experiment with twitter and incorporate that in the classroom.  It was a way to get students to use technology by computer, cell phones, and note taking if they wanted to, but would be posted online.  these posts was a way to pull this class to put their knowledge out to share with everyone through class discussion.  It worked to be successful even of you aren't physically in class to learn what is going on, you can still find ways through technology to gain the same knowledge.
